After planning for 15 months, I finally married Hal! We had a wonderful wedding on June 3, 2006, attended by 430 of our closest friends and relatives. We had a great time and also enjoyed our honeymoon cruise to Alaska. Now we're starting our lives together, living together for the first time. It will be a period of adjustments for sure.
Career-wise, after a tumultuous year as a law student, I figured out a few things about myself. One, I wouldn't be a very good lawyer. Two, I looked forward to two things all year -- freelancing and working with my journalism kids at a local high school. Cue the summer, cue an English job opening at that said school, and I left law school in the dust and went back to high school as an English teacher. I taught high school for two wonderful, hard, satisfying, frustrating, joyful, and difficult years -- and then I was given the opportunity to go to graduate school in journalism, combining my love of teaching and of journalism. I jumped at the chance, Hal and I moved 150 miles, and we settled in a small town in Indiana. I was just accepted into the PhD program and will finish my masters this December/January.
For college, I spent four years at the University of Kentucky, where I studied journalism and creative writing and spent lots and lots and lots of quality time at the daily school newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel, where I was the Kernel Entertainment Guide (KEG) editor, and also wrote columns, designed pages, and generally hung out. I spent every summer of college at a different newspaper, and once spent a crazy spring break in London, England. :) I love to scrapbook and watch movies, and if I had a spare moment during the week, I would try to write some fiction.
